The Singapore Mediation Convention is an international treaty that provides a framework for the enforcement and recognition of mediated settlement agreements, and it entered into force for Japan on April 2024, 4, with Japan's implementing law also taking effect on the same day. Mediation is receiving increasing attention from the business community as it is an effective means of ADR (alternative dispute resolution) to resolve disputes more quickly and cheaply and maintain commercial relationships. Of Counsel Kyongwha Chung

Attorney Kyongwha Chung is of counsel in Covington's International Arbitration Practice Group. He uses his expertise in public international law, private international law, international investment law, international arbitration and mediation to represent state and corporate clients in complex international disputes.
He has also served as a legal advisor in numerous international tribunals, advising on commercial and investment treaty matters. She represents clients in international arbitration and mediation under the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC, KCAB, JCAA, ICSID, and UNCITRAL Rules, and her practice spans a variety of jurisdictions and industries.
Attorney Kyongwha also regularly speaks and writes on a variety of topics related to international arbitration, mediation, and investment treaty disputes. She is dually qualified as a Korean lawyer and a US (New York) lawyer. She received her J.D. (LL.B. and M.A.) from Korea University and her LL.M. from Harvard Law School, where she won the Roger Fisher Award and the Frank E.A. Sander Award for her dissertation. I also have experience. She currently serves as an arbitrator and mediator.
In addition to writing the Korean chapter of the International Handbook on Commercial Arbitration (2018) edited by ICCA, he participated in the drafting process of the Korean chapter of the Asia Arbitration Handbook (2011) edited by Michael Moser, and wrote a long essay on arbitration. I also participated in a long essay on arbitration in ``Arbitration Law of Korea: Practice and Procedure'' (Juris Publishing, 2012).
