Points of attendance
Typical regulations regarding consumer transactions include the Specified Commercial Transactions Law and the Consumer Contract Law. Although both laws have many provisions in common as they deal with transaction situations, administrative dispositions and criminal penalties are stipulated only in the Specified Commercial Transactions Law. The Specified Commercial Transactions Law covers seven types of transactions, including mail order (remote transactions), telephone sales (including online meetings), solicited sales, and door-to-door sales (transactions conducted at locations other than business offices). In modern times, with the development of communication and transportation means, it has become widely applied, and enforcement by the authorities is also actively carried out. Therefore, in this article, we will provide an overview of the Specified Commercial Transactions Act, which is a representative regulation in the field of consumer transactions, and explain the mechanism by which violations of laws and regulations related to consumer transactions occur based on recent enforcement cases. While stating the direction of countermeasures, we will raise issues for the panel discussion that will be held later.

On October 2018, 10, Antimonopoly Law and Consumer Affairs was established in October 1 by two representative lawyers who have experience working at the Fair Trade Commission (Tsuyoshi Ikeda) and the Consumer Affairs Agency (Takaaki Someya).
