In recent years, with the diversification of data utilization due to technological innovation and the increase in global cross-border data transfer, awareness of the protection of personal information has increased. Since the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was passed in April 2016 and became effective on May 4, 2018, further developments have accelerated and countries around the world are legislating data protection laws affected by the GDPR. In the United States, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) has been enacted and enforced as a comprehensive state privacy law. In this way, data protection laws around the world are changing at a rapid pace, and the impact on the handling of personal information of Japanese companies is not small.
In light of these circumstances, our Data Security Practice Group has decided to hold regular webinars on a quarterly basis, with the theme of the latest trends in data protection laws around the world. In this first session, we will focus on global trends in the last three months. Each video is about 1 to 3 minutes long, which is suitable for practitioners to quickly grasp the latest trends in data protection laws around the world.
China has announced that it will enact a "Personal Information Protection Law" and a "Data Security Law" as part of its legislative work plan for 2020. The "Draft Data Security Law" was promulgated on July 2020, 7, and the "Draft Personal Information Protection Law" on October 3, 10. I will explain the outline of these two drafts.
Only members can watch it.
