In Germany, a law will go into effect on January 2023, 1, requiring companies in Germany above a certain size to conduct human rights and environmental due diligence on their own supply chains, both domestic and international. Japanese companies that have a business relationship with German companies are also subject to due diligence and will be required to take action.
In this video, Tomoya Ishikawa, co-representative of of Nishimura & Asahi's Frankfurt & Düsseldorf Office , will explain the content of the law and its impact on Japanese companies. The presentation will also discuss the direction of the proposed EU Supply Chain Due Diligence Directive, which is likely to be published by the end of this year, and how Japanese companies should respond to the proposed Directive.
