The 5th webinar version of "Issues Related to Corporate Scandals and Corporate Crimes" serialized in financial legal affairs.
The decision on whether or not to publicize a corporate scandal is one of the most important decisions in crisis management in Japan. At first glance, publicizing corporate scandals seems to be the right way for businesses to fulfill their social responsibilities. However, the question of whether it is always correct to disclose the existence and details of corporate scandals to the public beyond the relevant authorities and customers in relation to the major objective of crisis management, which is to maintain and enhance corporate value, actually involves difficult issues related to Japanese culture and the state of systems in place for corporate information dissemination. Based on these issues, I will discuss the publication of corporate scandals.
