Chris Kao is based in Pillsbury’s San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, where he focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. Chris is the co-leader of Pillsbury’s Taiwan practice.
Chris is an experienced first-chair trial lawyer representing technology companies in patent, copyright, trademark and trade secrets litigation, and other high-stakes commercial disputes. He has represented companies in the computer hardware and software, semiconductor, telecommunications, biotechnology, and consumer products industries in federal and state courts throughout the country, the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has extensive experience litigating Covered Business Method and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Chris also regularly advises clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues and is designated a Certified International Privacy Professional/U.S. by the IAPP.

Partner Jeff Schlepfer
Jeff Schrepfer is an advisor to Japanese corporations in connection with their mission-critical foreign acquisitions and investments in North America, Europe and Asia.
Jeff’s practice focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, investments and joint ventures, and general corporate counseling for publicly and privately held companies. His experience includes acquisitions in the United States, Europe and Asia and spans several industry sectors, including the semiconductor, automotive, pharmaceutical and service industries. He also has experience advising Japanese clients on both domestic and international sell-side transactions that involve non-Japanese counterparties. In addition to his core M&A experience, Jeff has also handled several cross-border oil and gas transactions.
While in college, he studied abroad at Nagoya University. Before entering law school, he worked as an analyst at Bridgestone's corporate planning department for three years. After that, he worked at the Tokyo branch of Societe Generale, a major French bank, for four years, mainly in Japan. Acted as a financial derivatives broker and analyst for clients of banks and other financial institutions.
