We start with providing an overview of U.S. economic sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury (“OFAC”). We provide practical examples of how sanctions apply to persons and entities and provide recent updates in U.S. sanctions laws. We then discuss U.S. export controls maintained by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. This webinar will then conclude with an overview of how Japanese corporations can build best practices for complying with applicable U.S. trade control laws.

Noritaka Kumamoto is a member of Simpson Thatcher's Tokyo office in the Corporate and Asian Litigation Divisions. We always represent Japanese companies in M & A deals, and provide generous support for Japanese companies in government investigations, litigation cases, capital market transactions, etc. After engaging in planning, corporate financing, product development, legal affairs, etc. at a major Japanese bank (New York, Japan), he joined Simpson Thatcher and provides legal advice with the needs and business practices of Japanese companies in mind.
